Whether your older laptop is feeling sluggish or your system starts lags when you have too many tabs open, adding more RAM could solve the problem. Most of the time standard laptop comes with 4GB RAM but may not enough if you are multitasking user. Some laptops provide single slot, some other, provide dual slot and there are also on board soldered RAM that cannot be replaced. While not all modern laptops give you access to the RAM, many manufacturer do provide a way to upgrade your memory.
Today we gonna show you how to upgrade or replacing RAM from the popular student choice laptop, an affordable Ideapad 320 series from Lenovo.
1. PREPARING TOOLS AND UNDERSTANDING YOUR LAPTOP SPECIFICATION
Most of Lenovo Ideapad 320 14 family have swap-able RAM SLOT. But it is great to make sure to checking first your Ideapad model specification on Lenovo website.
Here is the preparation :
1. LENOVO IDEAPAD 320 14AST model 80XU000LMJ
2. Ram DDR4 2133mhz 8GB CRUCIAL - $70
3. Philips Screwdriver
4. Triangle Pry Tool - $4
* Please understand any circumstance that may occur are under your responsibility. This tutorial is for side reference only. You may also need need to seek expert for guidance.
2 : REMOVING BOTTOM SCREW
There are 13 screw need to remove at the bottom of the laptops. All screw are same size. Please use screwdriver for removing all the screw available.
Red Circle : Bottom cover screw
Blue Circle : DVD Drive screw
3 : REMOVING DVD DRIVE
Use Triangle Pry Tool to take out DVD Drive from side of the laptop
After remove all the screw and DVD Drive, Please keep it in the safe place.
4 : OPENING IDEAPAD 320 BOTTOM COVER
Use Triangle Pry Tool again to open carefully the bottom cover.
Here are the view of inside Ideapad 320 14AST. The Red rectangle showed in the picture below are the mentioned RAM SLOT.
5 : REMOVING STOCK RAM
Ideapad 320 14AST comes with 1x 4GB DDR4 RAM stick. You cannot add more RAM because its only have single slot only.
To upgrade more RAM you need to replace with the new bigger RAM. First, please remove stock RAM from the motherboard.
Above are the picture of empty slot ram. Some Ideapad models have 4GB SOLDERED RAM on the motherboard. But most of them will have 1x RAM SLOT for upgrade.
Slide-in the new RAM into the RAM SLOT in 40 degree angle. Then carefully push down to the motherboard and it will automatically lock the ram down to the motherboard.
